Signal-to-Noise is an electrorock musician/songwriter/producer based in Chicago. Featuring soothing melodic vocals, intricate harmonies, and rich ambient textures, Signal-to-Noise draws influence from a diverse range of cerebral rockers (Grizzly Bear, Andrew Bird, and Supertramp just to name a few) to create powerful and inspirational music exploring the complexities of human existence.
A bit of background:
My name is Michael Downing. In December of 2014 with a bit of savings and the invaluable support of family and friends, I left my day job to become a full-time musician. Up until that point all of my major life decisions were based on fear. Fear of disappointing others. Fear of becoming impoverished. Fear of the consequences of not following the beaten path. I had forgotten that life is an experience, an ever-changing amalgamation of thoughts and feelings whose substance can only be defined by the experiencer. And so I seek to redefine my own life.
Signal-to-Noise is a reminder to live in the present, look inwards, turn down the noise, and find your signal.
Starting in January I locked myself away in my Chicago apartment, sheltered from the winter in order to compose, record, and produce my first full length Signal-to-Noise album. I am proud to announce that this experimental indie rock LP is now available on iTunes, Spotify, and findyoursignal.com
I won't let the world become a prison.
